ABSTRACT

This article aims to analyze the role of entrepreneurship as a means of empowerment for people with hearing impairments, through the study of the motivations, challenges, and strategies of a deaf entrepreneur. The research adopts a qualitative, descriptive, and exploratory approach, using a case study as the methodological strategy. Data were collected through a semi-structured interview, supported by a Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) interpreter, and analyzed using content analysis techniques. The results show that family support played a key role in the entrepreneur’s journey, along with challenges related to communication and the fight against prejudice. The company stands out for its strong commitment to inclusion, hiring mostly deaf employees, which contributes to a welcoming and representative environment. The business also differentiates itself by targeting niche markets, offering customized products, and adopting sustainable practices that add value to the brand and attract socially conscious consumers. The study concludes that entrepreneurship can be an effective path to personal and professional emancipation for people with hearing impairments, while also promoting social inclusion and breaking stigmas. This research offers theoretical and practical contributions that can inspire public policies and more inclusive organizational practices.
