Utilização da Estimulação Elétrica Funcional (FES) em Pacientes com Insuficiência Cardíaca: Revisão Sistemática / Use of Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) in Patients with Heart Failure: Systematic Review

Introdução: A estimulação elétrica funcional (FES) é um recurso fisioterapêutico amplamente utilizado em diferentes condições patológicas, dentre elas a insuficiência cardíaca (IC). Objetivo: Revisar sistematicamente a literatura sobre os efeitos da FES no tratamento de pacientes com IC. Métodos: Foi realizada uma revisão sistemática com pesquisa na Lilacs/Scielo, Biblioteca Virtual Em Saúde (Bireme) e PubMed/Medline. Foram selecionados artigos publicados entre 1996 a 2016, em português e inglês e apenas estudos controlados aleatorizados. Resultados: Segundo os critérios de elegibilidade, foram selecionados 14 artigos para análise. Foi observado que o uso da eletroestimulação tem sido uma ferramenta útil na reabilitação de pacientes com algum tipo de IC, sendo utilizada tanto em ambulatórios como no ambiente hospitalar. Conclusão: O uso da eletroestimulação tem trazido muitos benefícios, entre os quais podemos citar o aumento de força muscular, condicionamento cardiorrespiratório, diminuição do tempo de internação hospitalar, além da melhora na capacidade funcional.

ABSTRACT

 

Introduction: Functional electrical stimulation (FES) is a physiotherapeutic resource widely used in different pathological conditions, among them heart failure (HF). Objective: Systematically Review the literature on the effects of FES in the treatment of patients with IC. Methods: A systematic review with research in Scielo, Lilacs/Virtual Health Library (Bireme) and PubMed/Medline. Selected articles published between 1996 to 2016, in Portuguese and English and only randomized controlled trials. Results: According to the eligibility criteria, 14 articles were selected for analysis. It was observed that the use of electrostimulation has been a useful tool in the rehabilitation of patients with heart failure, being used in clinics and hospital environment. Conclusion: The use of electrostimulation has brought many benefits, among which we can mention the increase of muscle strength, cardiorrespiratório conditioning, decreased hospitalization time, beyond the improvements in functional capacity.
