ABSTRACT

The world has experienced in recent years a significant increase in the relevance of intellectual property rights, making the assets that companies own in the form of industrial designs, patents, trademarks, etc., fundamental in value creation. However, in the context of small and medium enterprises (SMEs), these rights are often neglected due, among other factors, to the lack of management tools to support these companies in the intellectual property management process. Given the above, this article aims to develop and validate a model, based on a set of indicators, to evaluate the performance of intellectual property management in small and medium enterprises (SMEs). For this, this work was developed in two steps. In the first stage, a theoretical and conceptual model was built. Second, the proposed model was evaluated by experts using the Fuzzy Delphi method to determine which indicators should integrate it. The final validated model consisted of 3 dimensions, 9 key evaluation factors and 42 indicators. The management tool proposed here is expected to support SME managers in the decision-making process regarding intellectual property management.
