RESUMO
A obra Leviathan, de Thomas Hobbes, é geralmente apresentada como um marco secularizante do pensamento político moderno. Por conta disso, muitos estudos sobre esta obra têm sido produzidos com um viés marcadamente iluminista-contratualista. Diferentemente de tal tendência, este artigo pretende analisar a dimensão teológico-política dessa obra, com foco na correlação temática entre soberania, fé e obediência civil. Este artigo está dividido em três partes: na primeira, procuramos situar o leitor brasileiro nos debates revisionistas e pós-revisionistas sobre as Guerras Civis Inglesas e a História das Reformas Protestantes na Inglaterra; na segunda, procuramos demonstrar o que entendemos ser o fim teológico-político principal de sua obra, isto é, que não há contradição entre fé e obediência civil num estado cristão, se a religião deste estado for devidamente fundamentada nas Escrituras; na terceira, procuramos demonstrar que a Infalibilidade da Bíblia é um tema estruturante para a defesa da soberania do estado protestante na Inglaterra do século XVII. Portanto, este artigo colabora com a linhagem crítica que analisa a dimensão teológica da obra Leviathan.

ABSTRACT
The Thomas Hobbes’ Leviathan is currently presented as a main reference of the secularized political thought rising from Early Modern Europe. Such a scholar approach to Leviathan has been followed the Enlightenment one. However, this article intends to analyze the theological political dimension of the major Hobbes’ work, relating the themes of Sovereignty, Faith and Civil Obedience. This article is divided in three parts: firstly, we intend to introduce the Brazilian scholar to revisionist and post-revisionist approaches on the studies of English Civil Wars and English Reformations; secondly, we intend to show that the Leviathan’s main theological political aim is to demonstrate that there is no contradiction in the Christian State between faith and civil obedience, if the Christian religion is rightly fashioned from the Bible; thirdly, we intend to demonstrate that the Biblical Infallibility is an important theme to Hobbes defense of sovereignty in the 17th Century English Protestant State. Therefore, this article collaborates to the critical trends in the studies of the theological dimension of Leviathan.
